About our Babydoll Southdown Lambs

Lambing time at Sweetwater farm is a wonderful and exciting time of year for us. I can't begin to describe the feeling you get when you see that little Babydoll lamb take their first breath of life and then cry for their mom for the first time. Within minutes they take their very first steps as they see the world for the very first time. Their mom's start to lick them clean all over as the lessons of what the world has in store for them begins.

Babydoll Southdown lambs are very gentle by nature and can become very friendly pets that will give you years of enjoyment. But this does not happen automatically. During the short eight weeks the lambs are with us we spend many hours with them so they learn that people will not harm them. With any lamb Mother Nature tell them to be very careful and run from things they do not understand as a way to protect themselves. It's the time we spend with the young Babydoll lambs that starts the imprinting process that people are not something to be frighten of.

If a breeder does not take the time to work with and spend the time with the young Babydoll lambs during that first eight weeks of life the Babydoll lambs are with the breeder, it would be very hard for any new Babydoll lamb owner to start from scratch to make them friendly at the age of eight weeks. They need to learn from day one who people are. Here at Sweetwater Farm we do our best to make all of our lambs as friendly as possible before they go to their new homes. This give the new owners a great head start in the right direction when they get to their new homes.

Before long they will be eating Animal Crackers out of your hand.

One Important Note:

Because of their strong flocking instinct the Babydoll sheep do not do well living without their own kind as companions. They thrive on companionship and must be with their own kind or at least another breed of sheep. Due to this fact, Babydoll lambs will only be sold in pairs if the buyer does not already have companion sheep at their home for their lamb to live with.
